Story

This ceramic rooster figurine offers a simple, unique accent for any space. Each piece is handcrafted, with a shape inspired by the everyday rural life of Vietnam. The comb is stylized into a small, cloud-like swirl, and the back features a functional opening, perfect for holding a single flower stem or an incense stick.

  • Handmade, One-of-a-Kind: No two roosters are exactly alike. Each is shaped by hand, and the natural ash glaze creates unique variations in color and texture.
  • Functional Design: The opening on the back allows it to be used as a small bud vase, an incense holder, or simply as a decorative object.
  • Durable Ceramic: Fired at a high temperature (1200-1300°C), the figurine is sturdy and the color will not fade.
  • Versatile Decor: Its compact size makes it suitable for a bookshelf, work desk, or kitchen counter.

Quality & Care:

Story

This figurine is affectionately called "Gà Miếng Cau" in Vietnamese, which translates to "Betel-piece Chicken."

The name comes from its unique shape. The gentle curve of the rooster's back is reminiscent of a small piece of areca nut, which is traditionally prepared with betel leaf in Vietnamese culture. It's a familiar, everyday image, reimagined into a simple piece of art.

Created by the artisans at Hien Van Pottery, each rooster begins as a simple piece of clay. The artisans shape it entirely by hand, giving each one a slightly different posture and expression. The comb is playfully swirled like a cloud, and the eyes seem to look up with curiosity.

The colors come from a natural ash glaze, made from rice husks sourced from local farms. When fired at over 1200°C, this glaze reacts in unpredictable ways, creating a finish that is unique to each piece. Some may have more drips, others a rougher texture. This intentional imperfection is the soul of traditional Vietnamese pottery.

By bringing this piece into your home, you are not just acquiring a decorative object; you are holding a small piece of Vietnamese culture and supporting a community of artisans dedicated to keeping their craft alive.

Care

Crafted from durable Hoang Tho clay, your Viet Potter figurine can withstand water and outdoor conditions.

Here's how to clean and care for your ceramic figurine:

  1. Rinse: Gently rinse the figurine with clean water.
  2. Soft Brush: Use a soft brush (an old toothbrush works great!) to gently scrub away any moss or dirt.
  3. Air Dry: Allow the figurine to air dry completely.

Please note: Avoid using any chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools, as these may damage the figurine's surface.
